Cate Pearson, LCSW: Lexington

Cate Pearson has been a licensed clinical social worker for 23 years. She earned her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Kentucky. She accepts most insurance plans and particularly enjoys working with adolescents and couples. She has specialized couples training in Gottman Level One and hopes to do Level Two training soon. She is also an approved supervisor for CSWs.

Her approach to treatment is collaborative and compassionate. Her clients set their treatment priorities and direction, while she helps guide them through the counseling process.

She has worked in a broad variety of clinical settings, including private and group practice, school-based, employee assistance program (EAP) work, mental hospitals and has been the clinical director for three nonprofit counseling agencies.

Areas of interest and specialty include adaptation to life stressors and changes, gifted students, interpersonal and relationship issues, wellness, and managing anxiety, depression, grief, OCD, and trauma symptoms.

Treatment techniques include brainspotting, a trauma shortcut technique, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), Gottman method couple interventions, mindfulness-based, motivational interviewing, solution-focused, and strengths-based approaches.
