Ben Mize, AMFT: Lexington
I offer couples therapy (a.k.a. marital therapy or relationship therapy) as well as individual therapy. My approach emphasizes the factors outside awareness that affect thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. In couples therapy, I will help you examine the maladaptive ways of interacting that serve to maintain problems in your relationship. Like an instructor in a dance lesson, I will observe and intervene in your interactions as they occur in our sessions in order to help you "dance better" together. In individual therapy, together we will explore the emotional problems that make life or relationships difficult, unmanageable, or overwhelming in order to increase self-understanding and personal agency. We will examine your relationships as systems of interdependent parts, identify important themes and patterns, and make use of the therapeutic relationship as a microcosm of your approach to relationships.
I am a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a Master of Science in Family Sciences with an emphasis in Couple and Family Therapy. As a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate, I practice under the supervision of an approved Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the American Psychoanalytic Association, and the Lexington Psychoanalytic Study Group. I'm currently enrolled in the Advanced Psychodynamic Psychotherapy program at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute.
