Tommy Wilson, CASW, therapist for Resolutions Therapy Practice, KY.

I work with people who find themselves returning to the same difficult places despite trying to take different paths. Anxiety and depression often live here, but the deeper issue is usually stuckness itself — a sense of being caught inside patterns that feel strangely predictable and resistant to change. Over time, it can begin to feel less like something you experience and more like who you are.

These patterns emerge through a life organized under pressure: ways of noticing, anticipating, and responding that helped you navigate difficult terrain. They are not arbitrary additions. They develop for reasons. But over time they narrow what registers as possible, until the structures built to manage your life become the world you move through. Because they are ways of organizing experience, they reappear in how we relate and reveal hardened expectations that move too quickly to register in ordinary life. So our work proceeds through the clinical relationship itself, not through self-reflection alone, and over time experiences that once arrived as fixed or inevitable can begin to shift, allowing different forms of response to emerge.

I came to clinical work by way of military service, coaching competitive climbers, and my own experience in therapy, which changed the direction of my life. I went on to earn my master’s in social work with a focus in trauma, and I continue to study and write about psychotherapy, psychoanalytic thought, and the philosophical traditions that inform them. I am an active member of the Lexington Psychoanalytic Study Group and the American Psychoanalytic Association. I currently practice with adults interested in examining the shape of their relational and emotional lives closely enough for new forms of movement to become possible.
